not that I know of. cedar is really bad for chickens probably the same for ducks too.

I've used pine shavings, shredded paper and chopped straw in the past. I like the shavings best
 
Definitely no cedar. Depends where you have them and how old they are. Are they in the house while they brood or outside? I had mine in the house to brood for almost 2 months and I gave up and used towels. Good Grief they are messy! Outside, I use white shavings in their house.
 
I have also heard/read that cedar is a no-no... and no kitty litter, i guess they will try to eat it??
My husband has a woodshop and we tried using some poplar shavings, they seemed to not even work as well as the pine...and poplar has a smell to it, which I feel made the duck poo smell worse.
Im really liking Horse pellets, It seemed like no matter how often I changed the pine/newspaper in the brooder, it smelled awful after an hour or two. The horse pellets are a compressed pine, and I can go longer without changing it...and also you can just scoop out the parts that are dirty when the pellets expand. I had a farm store employee tell me he only has to change the litter in his laying house every 6 months... but personally that would make me NUTS

I worry about germs and pests too much to wait anywhere near that long... But I can see how he could push it because it really does cover up any smell, and you really can tell the clean litter from the dirty.
 
The ducklings are in the basement of the house. It does smell horrible!!!

I am currently using newspaper and I end up changing it out 2-3 times a day. I have 7 ducklings in there and they are sooooo messy!!! I hope to soon get them into their house when it warms up a little more. Thanks for the info.
 
Yes. they ARE messy. Get them off newspaper. It's slippery and can cause spraddle legs! I just used towels. You'll still have to clean them out twice a day or so, but I just shook them off outside and then threw them into the washer. I had them in a bathroom, so put their food and water in the shower stall with a rubber mat in there which helped with some of the mess. I could just 'hose' it down. If you can keep their food and water contained, it would also help. Do a search on here and you will find some very inventive ideas on how to keep the duck mess down!

Good thing they are so cute and funny!

I found that newspaper, although quick and easy to change, tends to end with them slipping around too much.
I ended up using old rags that we could wash. A bit of extra effort, but no legs flailing around in and awkward yet hilarious manner!
