Will swans chase away geese?

I hadn't thought to post about out local park but there is a small lake, more like a pond, in the city park. There are 5 mute swans, ducks, geese and peacocks there and they all get along with the wild Canada Geese that are also there frequently so I don't think anything can be guaranteed.

Update, my Mute Swan, and his girl Matilda, an Australian Black Swan, are bonded. Hoping they will mate and produce this spring. I did look it up and they "can" reproduce but their cygnets will be infertile. They would likely be a grey color or black and white splash color. What's cool about this is that I can have them pinioned but DNA sexing would be unnecessary. They can be sold as pairs, not breeding pairs but bonded pairs, as males can bond with males and females with females so someone wanting a "pair" of pretty swans for a pond or lake can have no concerns with babies if they are not wanting them. I think it's so cool, it's like selling neutered or spayed pets.

Now, to read more about setting up an area for nesting and learning more about the rearing of young swans. Barry and Matilda may not even reproduce but this is what a Mute to Black Swan cross looks like. Here are some of the very few photo's I found of what a Mute Swan/Australian Black Swan hybrid looks like. I'm sure that there could be even more variation in color, size and type.

Pic of my fearless protector of his/her territory. Two wild geese have been hanging out for almost a week (they are on the opposite bank) , if you look real close to the left of the white building there is a mallard duck poking its head up from the closest bank. They all seem to be getting along fine. Two geese is ok I guess. If any more show up I may learn how to roast a goose.

bh... your Mute is a beauty. I assume you only have one? If so it's fine without a mate? I'm currently in the process of adopting a male mute from a local wildlife rescue and if there are any tips you can give me as far as relocating him, I would appreciate it. You don't have fencing for protection do you?

Thanks much, Bj

So, I am not sure about them chasing geese away, but I know they'll feed Koi!

I Know nothing about swans, just thought this was amazing,, but after looking at it a second time, I have to ask.. are those babies hanging out on their backs???? That is too much, have babies to take care of and they are donating time down at the Food bank for charity! Pretty amazing birds!

I have a 1/2 acre pond and had a TERRIBLE time with the flying Canadian rats for several years - up to 32 pairs on that small body of water was horrible. I tried everything from trapping the babies and relocating them to my next door neighbor's pond (with his permission, of course), fireworks, dogs, racing at them with the car/tractor/truck, gridlines of fishing wire...you name it. I was blessed to be able to adopt 3 mute cygnets from a local rescue that I volunteer for and that was THE END of the FCRs (Flying Canadian Rats)!! Even as juveniles my swans would rip after any FCR that came onto the property and I have no doubts that they would kill one if given the chance. Now I have a tag team going where my guinea fowl shriek at the top of their lungs at the FCRs until my swans come and take over the job - hilarious! Just the looks on the FCRs faces when those guineas start screaming is priceless!

Also, my swans are very sweet. I handled them daily since they were 3 days old and they wouldn't even think of harming anyone. My female is on her nest right now and her mate just watches me carefully when I sit down in the grass next to her each evening for our nightly discussions and patting. I love them madly!
