How do you tell Buff Orpingtons apart?

I don't have orps:/,but i do have Leghorns. i painted their toenails too. VERY easy to tell apart for a week. then i just repainted them. And they don't peck at red. At least, i didn't notice it.

LOL! Wow, you are doing better than me! I have 5 BO's that are 1 year old and I can never tell them apart! Well, there is one that is more protective of the smaller chickens, but if you put all 5 out in the yard to free range, your guess would be as good as mine.

I have four BOs and can tell them apart easily. One is large and has a straight comb-named MO, one is large and has a comb that leans to one side- named Meanie, one has a much lighter face than the rest-she is Miney, and the last one is kind of smaller built and scared of her own shadow-named Eenie. They definitely each have different personalities. No one else in my family can tell them apart but I have not trouble with it. I am also the one that takes care of them everyday though. Good luck learning to tell yours apart.

The size, behavior, and sounds make sense but how do their tails differ?

I had to take my 6 week old chicks to my friends house while we were on vacation for 10 days. She has BO and NHR's same age as mine. We put zip ties on my chicks and they were fine. You can get really thin ones. Not sure about long term but at least you can tell them apart while they grow bigger.
