Chick drowned in water dish

So sorry for your loss :( I always feel so bad when I lose any animal, as they are all pets to me! I always wonder what I could have done differently.

I don't know how feasible it is for you, but you could look into poultry nipples, I got a package of 4 for about $4 and drilled a hole in the lid of a powerade bottle for the nipple (could use gatorade or any other large bottle, but the powerade had a lot of places where I could wrap wire around it to make a holder) and used an exacto knife to cut some slits in the bottom of the bottle (which is the top of the bottle once its all assembled), so that it doesn't create a vacuum and the water will freely flow out when they use the nipple. Fill it with water, put the lid on then flip it upside down and viola, you have a super cheap, clean, safe waterer. As long as it is hung low enough that everyone can reach it, it is amazing! I used a coat hanger to make a hanger for the bottle and I put it on the side of their brooder, then hung it on the side of the wire cage when I moved them. Never have to deal with dirty water or worrying about anyone drowning or getting too wet & cold etc.

Just a thought!! It only cost me a whole $4! If you want I can post a pic later!! And if you can't find poultry nipples I'd be more than happy to mail you some, or heck even a homemade waterer!!
