Blue egg layers??

What do the two blue egg laying breeds look like? Any personality quirks? Why are they crossbred which is what I assume is then called "easter egger" which isn't a pure breed so has no breed name, correct? What is the advantage to crossbreeding?
Really old thread you posted on, but I'll answer.
Ameraucana are the recognize breed with a pea comb, muffs, beards, white skin, tails and only have a handful of colors.

The Araucana is a recognized breed with a pea comb, tufts, yellow skin and are rumpless.

Hatchery sourced Easter Eggers are not crossbreeds, as most assume. They are actually what both of the recognized breeds were derived from. Easter Eggers just haven't been selectively bred towards any particular standard. With an Araucana or Ameraucana, you know what to expect in terms of laying rate, rate of development, temperament, size, egg color, and looks. With an Easter Egger, there are no such guarantees.

Thank you for the info. The easter egger I've seen is greyish and gold (tan) with dark color feet so just doesn't seem like a cross of the two you mentioned. Her eggs are very vivid blue. I asked if I could buy her and got a big NO. Any comment? What would you suggest I buy? I'd like to add the blue eggs to our market but I really want the bird to show (not for a ribbon) to educate kids at the county fair.

If you order Easter Eggers from a hatchery, get about 6. That way, at least one will be a blue egg layer.
If you choose to purchase Araucana or Ameraucana from a breeder, they won't be sexed, and they will cost more.

I thought the Auracana laid eggs of different shades, pink, green, blue. I saw a dozen eggs of all shades at the county fair where the owners were showing their chickens. They said they were Auracanas and had just laid that variety of egg colors. The blue was the color that impressed me most. Was I taken in or am I missing something?

They had Easter Eggers. Some hatcheries and feed stores sell Easter Eggers as Araucana. And some people honestly think that they are the same thing, and don't realize how different the two breeds/types are.
Araucana are very rare, are rumpless, do not have muffs or beards, and only lay blue eggs.

If you want to be sure of blue eggs, Araucana and Ameraucana are the way to go. They are very hard to find, and only come in handfull of colors. No hatchery in the U.S. has Araucana, and only a few have true Ameraucana. The majority of hatcheries have Easter Eggers labeled as Ameraucana or Araucana. Don't be fooled. When it comes to true Ameraucana and Araucana, color/variety is always specified.
If you want a variety of colors/patterns and don't mind the potential for green, cream, pink, and brown in addition to blue, Easter Eggers are really fun. You never know what color eggs you're going to get. That first egg is always a surprise.

I don't know much about Araucanas, but have 2 Ameraucana Cockerels and 2 pullets that started laying a month or so ago. I purchased them from a breeder localish to me and I adore them. I get 2 blue eggs nearly every day, so they lay well, though their pullet eggs are still a bit small. Highly recommend the breed if you can get your hands on them, though.

So where in so.w. VA can I find or order an Aruacana chick or fertilized egg? Or second choice an Ameraucana? I would rather a clean faced hen. If they are so hard to find, why aren't they on an endangered list? My Campines are critically endangered but I had no trouble getting two hen chicks. They, by the way, lay cream colored eggs which are big considering the bird's size. And the birds are oh so pretty.
