Woe to anyone who comes into my main coop door after hours. And I'm not talking about my Delaware rooster, Isaac, either. I'm talking about my 4 lb. teensy black EE/Ameraucana/Sumatra/Whatever-she-is, half-blind attack chicken, Tiny, affectionately known as Tiny the Terrorist. It matters not who comes into the coop, either, because she can barely see in the daylight, much less in the nightlight-lit coop at dusk, so she just attacks whatever opens the door and comes through it, man or beast.
As we are putting the flock up, she is very sweet. She waits outside under the edge of the coop for every other hen to go inside, then walks out to be picked up and carried inside like Cleopatra on her barge, like a little angel, a spoiled one, sure, but an angel. Every night, she does this. But, once the flock is locked in for the night, it all changes.
I was just the victim of one of her attacks because I made the huge mistake of wanting to change the position of one of the fans in the coop after locking up for the night. BIG mistake. I undid the two barrel bolts, a sound which I'm sure clued her in that someone was coming in the door. Then as soon as my second foot was inside the coop, from under the roosts flew the Tiny Terrorist, hackles flared like a cobra, making her look twice as large as she is, screaming, feet flying. I managed to sidestep her and grab the poop rake to fend her off with one hand so I could move the fan with the other hand. Good grief, that is one crazy chicken! Did I mention that she has spurs?
Isaac, sweet boy that he is, sat on the roost, watching the show from his position of safety, not offering any assistance, because of course, he's used to that nutty wench of his. I could almost see him roll his eyes at her. Thanks, Ike, a little help would have been nice, buddy.
