Can you trap a chicken in one of those humane traps? This rooster is living in bushes between a freeway and an off ramp, and I don't want to scare him into traffic. I'll only attempt this if I can find a safe and legal home for him but was wondering how I'd catch him if I do find him a home. I don't think getting him at night is an option as the bushes are very thick and the process of staking out his roosting spot could send him into traffic.

Oh yeah - would anyone like a very pretty white rooster with a red patches on him? Don't know the breed but his comb is very very small and he is medium sized, about the size of my BA hen but smaller than a BA rooster. I would be willing to drive him anywhere within a few hours of the Bay area in Northern CA but not if he's dinner. If I put an ad on craigslist I guess I'd have to ask for $ to make sure he's not eaten - is $10 enough to make sure he's not eaten?

yup the traps work! can tell you from experience - we have lots of feral chickens here and i caught one in my yard as a test to see if the trap i got at the dump would work - well it did and now after being released the roo wont leave ( i had to post about it earlier today being in a panic wussy girly state and being scared because he charged me) but if you put some food scraps in there it should work - thats really nice of you to try to relocate him to a safer spot. do you already have a trap because i know here the fancy made ones run about $400!

like i said i got mine at the dump - they were trying to trap the chickens there, but food in the trap would have helped - lol - they never caught any i guess, so they gave me the trap. well goodluck to you.

thanks - I think I've found a person in my neighborhood who has a trap and we might give it a try, although we really need to find him a home before we get too far as we can't keep roosters. I just posted in my local neighborhood listserve and found out the 3 of us have been feeding him, and 2 of us have named him - one name "Macarthur" after the road that crosses his territory the other "Maxwell" for the nearby neighborhood! I saw him again this morning - I think he may be some type of game breed. Not a surprise - unfortunately in our urban area there are idiots who participate in cockfighting so maybe he is one of the many victims.

He's been hanging around for at least 6 months. At first he was hanging out on the residential side of the offramp, then he disappeared for many months and I thought he was dead or found his home, but he's been hanging out on his island surrounded by heavy traffic now for about a month.
