Rescued chick from cat (*Update* Coop page 26!)

So since I've administered the Wazine and cannot follow up with Ivermectin to kill the other worms in him for 10 days, is there anything that I could do to help his situation? I know he has different kinds of worms in him. He AND Calissa have been extending their necks and opening their mouth like they're gulping, and yesterday I noticed Floyd doing something funny with his neck, like a twitch. He doesn't do it often I was doing some research on other dewormers and found something on gapeworm. I hope he doesn't have it, but they're both doing it. I was wondering if I could get some DE 5% to toss in their food to help them out with other types of parasites until I can give them Ivermectin.

And by the way, he's still doing better. He still occasionally does the trying to sleep while standing gig and he's still not as active as my EE, but there has been some major improvements, such as him eating his feed, drinking by himself, and having his crop nice and full.

I think he's doing just fine. He is getting better and will be back to normal in no time at all. Just make sure you follow up with the other dewormer in 10 days!!

Mine will fall asleep standing too, it's like tired just sneaks up on them. But then they do wake up and go OOPS, I guess I should hunker down.

I also have some vellux blankets that I cut up for puppies when I had them around. But I have a few in with them. i don't have anywhere to dustbathe yet, but the other day i caught one flopping around on the blanket. I almost had a heart attack....I thought it was seizing... nope, dustbathing on the soft vellux blanket. DORK.

Maybe that's why people with LOTS of chickens don't sit and watch them all day long

Too nerveracking! But even with all the heart palpatations... they are FUN to watch

LOL I found this cute video on youtube when I noticed Floyd had started dustbathing.
I just want to squeeze them up and give them tons of kisses! Hahaha when it really gets going it just starts sliding across the floor

It's so cute when they decide to dustbathe somewhere that has no effect. Calissa tries to dustbathe in the pine shavings that I put in there

Yeah, last year after our school visit, I had mealworms left over, so I figured, I might as well throw them in her tub and let her finish eating them, while I was cleaning other parts of the house. Well, left unattended....... she dustbathed! I'm soooo glad she never did that at school, I don't think the teacher would appreciate peat moss all over. I personally had to laugh.

Mine all do the stretch their neck/gulp thing. I think it's to adjust the food in their crop or something, not neccesarily worms. I don't know much about DE. The wazine stays in their system for awhile, and will continue working for a little bit. I'd just wait the 10 days before doing anything else, to give the wazine a chance to work and to give Floyd a chance to gain some energy reserves back. I'm happy to hear he's feeling better, go Floyd!

Thank goodness. I've been so paranoid that it's making me think my chick has every disease, worm, and ailment that chickens have ever had! And yeah, I'm not touching him with the Ivermectin until the exact 10 days are up. Thank you Julie. You've been a tremendous help!

No problem, I'm glad all my endless hours on BYC have been good for something, lol.

I lost a hen (eggbound) a few days ago. Before I figured out what was wrong I was convinced they had worms, mites, respiratory disease, etc. So I've done lots of research the last week and still have it fresh in my mind.

I'm so sorry. I've read that a hen being eggbound is very common
