My tiny BA chicks I got the first of May have turned into the most gorgeous BA hens. They are just starting to lay and the eggs are so small but I have confidence the eggs will get bigger. These hens are not even 6 months old but are bigger than my previous flock of Isa Browns. Their feathers shine blue green in the sun and they still are losing baby feathers of their fluffy butts! I took these as they were foraging in the garden.

Beautiful pictures. I am considering getting Australorps in the spring. I heard that they are broody though. I wouldn't like that since I don't plan on raising chicks. Did you get them from a breeder?

Love, love, love my BA's. They kept laying even though it was 112 or 115 on some days this Summer. Sweet girls and of the fourteen hens, only two went broody. I just move them out of the nest box when they act like that.

How do you think they would do up here in New England? Living in NH?
It could get as cold as cold can be....

BA's are a heavy, hardy breed and it can get pretty nasty here is Indiana but I'm confident that they will do fine. My coop is not insulated or heated and my Isa Browns did well last year with nor sign of frostbite. I think youwould do well with Aussies. I got mine from my local feed provider who got them from a hatchery in Michigan. All ten are happy and healthy!
