how to sanitize eggs?

yeah that definately was a rotten one.. gross.. I would gently clean the goo off with a slightly damp paper towel or soft rag and yes try to hatch.. I would also contact where you got the hatching eggs from and see about replacements or refunds.. obviously you did not get what you paid for or expected!!!! good luck!

Hi ThornyRidge,
The seller is supposed to mail me out some new eggs Monday. I did ask for eggs collected the day of and/or the day before shipping. She was very, very nice about everything. I think right now she's just going through something. So I wish her well, and I AM looking forward to the fresh eggs!
Oh that egg! egads! I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I realized some of the folks thought I was going to eat them!
Thanks for your wishes for things to work out well.
You are another person I can add to my 'yes' list as to hatching the remaining eggs. I grabbed them when I opened the box and ran them to the sink, rinsed, gently dried and put in the "hold' carton'. I was back and forth on yes or no as to incubating them. That's it!! I'm going to put them in today. Thank you. : ) I'll post back when I get the new eggs.

I have to say I agree with your wife. I think sanitation is important, after all look where these eggs are coming out of. I bake a lot so the thoughts of contaminating food is not something I am willing to do. I use a bleach and water mix, when I wash them I spray it on them and then rinse the eggs. I wasn`t aware of the warm water being better than cold, I will keep that in mind.

You would rather have bleach residue in your baked goods? Most eggs come out clean if your next boxes are clean. Washing eggs has the potential of sucking contaminates into the egg instead of keeping it on the shell. I normally don't put the shell in my food, so I don't worry about contamination.
