Two Red chickens... what am I?

Sooo knowing that most of my chickens came from hatchery eggs, and novice chicken farmers like myself, I am starting to question ALL of my supposed breeds.

These two girls were sold to me as New Hampshires.

I thought they were Rhode Island Reds....

Maybe they're Sex-links.....

I really don't know, and as I have tons of their baby chicks (mixed however, with my Columbian Rock roos) I'd love to know what they are.

Also, I could not get a good pic of my Barred Rock, but she did sneak in a couple of these pics, so on her my question is...is she a hatchery chicken? (She was supposedly a high quality, true breed...now i'm wondering, after seeing all the true Barreds on here, if she is just hatchery quality.) Love her regardless, but I want to know the REAL scoop on all my chickens.

Thanks in advance!

The answer is... Production Reds, sometimes referred to as hatchery grade Rhode Island reds. They are cross between Rhode Island Reds and New Hampshire Reds. By the way their chicks look almost identical to RIRs and NHRs. I hope you like eggs because once they get going they're egg laying machines!

And I think the barred rock looks like a hatchery bird. If you check out the heritage thread or the good shepherd ranch thread, there is quite a difference in hatchery barred rocks and the heritage/show lines. She's a nice looking bird, just not that little step above. I've got a dozen just like her.

Ha since finding all you on BYC I've discovered my Delwares were Hatchery Columbian Rocks, my NH's are Production Reds. ....my Araucanas are EE's, and my Ameraucana is an EE....

I'll be posting my "golden comet", "buff brahma", "mottle Java" and my "silver laced wyandotte" later....

And ...I'll then find out that what I really have is a sex link, a turkey, a duck and and oh...maybe another EE lol

Well you know what, I DO know my leghorn is a leghorn dammit! LOL

Thanks so much everyone, you've been a great help!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, guess I just needed someone else to confirm it. My two barreds are huge lovely birds, and incredible layers! Love 'em regardless, but just disappointed *I* wasn't knowledgable enough when I bought all these chickens to know what breeds, and what quality I was really getting. I'll be much more informed from now on!

Thank you!
