I currently feed my hens straight laying mash and whatever scrap bread and vegies we have from the house... someone told me that feeding them cracked corn would give the eggs a better flavor... true or false ???

It is quite likely that upwards of 70% or more of your layer mash is already corn. But corn alone isn't a balanced diet for your layers, so the feed mill added protein, vitamins, essential minerals and calcium to make your feed.

If you feed more corn than they are likely already getting in the mash, it will dilute the ratio they are getting of the other essential ingredients in the mash. Feed enough corn, and yes, most chickens will gobble it down like a teenager eating Mickey D's french fries, but it won't likely make your eggs taste better and might even cause you to have less eggs to taste anyhow. Whack out their diet and laying production can fall. Agri-Poultry Science spends millions of dollars studying poultry nutrition. It is amazingly easy to disrupt that dietary balance.
