3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

Blarney...that is so sweet of your son and daughter, and you are right, it is an important lesson. Kudos to them (and you!!)

MelissaRose ...I grew up in SE Texas, Beaumont, ever heard of it? The Golden Triangle, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange

I have 50 coturnix quail set to hatch in about a week, to add to our 3 boys and 11 girls. That should be fun. My 7' x 20' porch is full of birds. The 4 guinea pigs and 2 bunnies don't quite know what to think!

We don't get down to Beaumont to much these days. I used to go to Port Aurthur with my Mom when she was still alive years and years ago. My sweety heads down to PINS mostly and then to Goose Island and Rock Port to fish. I'm egggcited about the quail eggs

My kids get a kick out of the eggs, I cook 10 - 12 of them over easy for each of them. I just hard boiled 25 for snacks. Next summer when my church has its family potluck dinners once a week, we are going to bring deviled quail eggs...they got such a kick out of the tiny bantie eggs we brought last year, these should be a riot!

If you don't like peeling those tiny eggs, you can soak them in vinegar, it dissolves the shell and you just have to peel off the membrane. (scrub off the spots first, or it looks really yukky

but they do wash clean if you don't)

Well, it looks like this thread is about at it's end. I suppose we can continue to post pics of the chicks as they grow.

And perhaps the next time I come back here this thread will have the new format on Wednesday.

I expect to put between 28-30 eggs in the Brinsea on Wednesday for a February 1st hatch. I'm hoping I get at least 15 nice purebred w/bw ameraucanas.

See y'all on the NEW BYC!

We are still waiting on a few prizes to be announced so don't go away!

Still open:

Closed but waiting on determination of "winners:"
1. NYD Photo contest winner will be determined ASAP.
