when can my chickies eat grass

hello everyone! I have 26 adorable and sweet Dominiques that are just over 2 weeks old. They are living in the basement and have light on. I was wondering when I can start yanking out some grass from the yard and letting them eat it. They have chick grit sprinkled around. I'm worried about them getting bored without something new to do.

I took mine out in the grass at about 2 weeks but with very CLOSE supervision. I dont recall her eating grass but she did scratch around a bit, seeming to look for bugs.

She is about 5 weeks old now and I see her eat the green stuff growing around (not really grass but lots of weeds).

Indoors, she love to peck and pull at my spider plant.
 
Thank you! I'll pick them a bit of grass and put it in the pen. I think they need something to do! At least they can go through it and peck. With all the ticks we have out here they might find a tick too. I wish I could take them all outside but there's just too many! Love my babies though!

I put mine out at less than a week of age in an enclosed pen with two 2-3 week old Silkies. They were pecking away contentedly all day. At night, they were brought in and given as much crumble as they wanted to ensure that their bellies were full.

You're very welcome. I want to add the (actually less than one week old chicks) were Red Bro Broilers. Perhaps birds that are more delicate would not fare as well).
 
I had 16 babies at once, I just stuck them in an x-pen when I was outside working in the yard and they did really well. They started going outside at 2.5 weeks and would peck at the dirt, grass, leaves, etc. I don't know how much was playing and how much they actually ate, but I gave them some chick grit just in case and they were fine.

Thank you everyone! I hard boiled a couple of eggs and smashed them for the girls earlier and they loved it! I didn't know they would eat eggs until I read on here! I'm learning so much! Thank you everyone!

u can also saveur egg shells and rinse them in water and smash them up and bake them on a cookie sheet at 300 degrees in the oven til they r golden brown and let them cool then feed them to ur chickens also it i guess helps to strengthen the egg shells that they lay !!! the owner of our local pet store told me this when i bought some chicken food ...... hope this helps
