Hi there fellow BYC - this is my first time with chickens - I've had such fun growing up these chicks! I got a cochin bantam assortment (plus one leghorn) from McMurray on Oct 6, so now they are about 10 weeks old. This golden laced one I sure hope is a pullet, but what's up with the red comb? The others are more yellowish pink in comparison. Is she just maturing faster or is she a he? Lacey (or Louie) still makes peeping sounds, when do they start to make more clucking sounds?

I think that your golden laced cochin is going to be a cockeral as based on your one pic that show more pointed back saddle feathers which are indicative of a male as well as the lack of lacing in the breast area.

That's definitely a boy. Cochin girls do not have combs like that at that age. Mine hardly have any and they are almost twice the age!

ETA: Comparison photo of my cochin girl, Mabel. She is going on 20 weeks old this Saturday.
