Chicken was attacked today, we think it was a hawk.

I found her alive and breathing its been about 2 hours now. She doesnt move but I cleaned the wound best I can and gave her a heat lamp and brougth her into the house. She did drink a little electrolyte water too.

I need to know what to go buy to put on the wound. I live about 35 minutes from a chicken supply store. I am going to get him everything to try and save its life. What should I get to treat the wound properly? I cant tell the depth of the injury but it has clotted and is not bleeding out. Now its all about fighting off the infection. I have only used peroxide and water so far to clean the wound.


 
did you see the hawk? We had rats that attacked a few of our birds, one made a wound in my turkey like that... we caught one red handed... peroxide is good, is the bird up .. walking around at all.. or standing??
 
Now that it's clean you need to put a BLU-Cote over the top of it it come in spray form. That will seal it perfectly. You need to put liquid vitamin drops in like Vita-Sol in her drinking water. Feed her proteins like hard boiled eggs scrambled eggs ground up or very fine chicken breast, Put flax seed in some cottage cheese and other nut products like sun flower seeds without the shells ground up. Do you have mill worms or get some very high in protein.

Put her in a very small pet carry box to restrict her from moving around and keep the water fresh. If she will not go to the water eye drop it to her but don't shoot it into the beak just drop it. Make sure the Blu-Cote is on an 1" wider than the cut it will not hurt her.

Usually the hawk will grip it's prey and puncture it's lungs with long talons. And then stand on it and proceed to pull bits of flesh off to eat.

Looks like it was attempting to eat your hen. See if there are any puncture wounds...

Shock can kill them if the wounds do not. Keep her quiet, warm and let her rest. A heating pad on low with a towel placed over it can keep her warm.
She won't need to eat much if she is inactive...

Give her warm sugar water mixed in with her feed. That way she can get her liquids.

I saw the hawk a few times last few weeks and my neighbor watched it pick up a squirrel and fly away. She said it was insane. So thats why I think hawk. I have never seen a rat out this way but with winter and everything hungry Its of course possible.

I have more experience with such than I like. Based on interpretation of image provided and that bird has not gotten up after a couple of hours, I think the damage is severe. Odds for survival are low if bird does not at least regain feet quickly after predator attack.

Thanks for the advise on her not returning to her feet. I do agree with you unfortunately. I certainly don't want the bird to suffer. But don't want to kill her knowing she could of survived.
I am going to give her overnight. If she can't do anything still by morning I will put her to rest.
