How long do hybrids live?

I would not bet on a chicken living 10 years. I have NEVER even come close. IMHO a 4 year old chicken is an old hen. I have dealt mostly with hatchery birds, and it is not uncommon in my experience to have several flock mates, hatched the same year to die within months of each other. I think it is pretty common.

But then you can get new chicks.

Really if you want long lived pets, chickens are probably not a best fit for you. I am not saying they can't live that long, but I am saying that pretty often they don't or at least they don't live that long up here in SD.

I have a hybrid who is 3 years old and still doing fine but she stopped laying for good about a year ago, I don't know if this is to do with the fact that she is a hybrid?

I had two hybrids and when one of them very tragically died due to the house collapsing the other stopped laying for good and I think it was from trauma. Anyway she is now 4 years old and looking extremely healthy!
