Do hens lay their eggs before a certain time of the day?

She's my son's favorite and I dread the day she's no longer with us. How often does your EE lay once she starts back up again? Elsie was laying 3 - 4 eggs a week before her molt.

yes, that's about what I get, 3-4 eggs a week from her. I'm hoping she'll continue to lay in the spring when she is 8 years old. Someitmes she lays one or two. And once in awhile I'll get 5 in a week from her.

I have a flock of 7 month old chicks and 4 older hens who were laying 7 months ago but have quit since August. When the older hens were laying I'd weight my eggs on a small postal scale, and they were usually 1.9 to 2.2 ounces. That is a large to extra large store bought egg. Just this last week one of the 7 months olds started laying, and her egg looks like a medium size store bought egg and weights around 1.5 ounces. I'm hoping she will inspire the others to start laying, as I've been buying eggs for 2 months now. But at least this week I've got 4 medium brown eggs this week to show for all the feed and work around the pen.
Although I have yet to find any eggs under the bushes or truck, I still look. I let the girls out about 8:30 most mornings. Even with letting them out, the new layer is returning to the coop and nest box to lay her egg. It has been the same for all the other girls who used to lay. I only found 1 or 2 eggs layed in the pen, and have never found any eggs outside of the coop or pen. So I'm getting more and more comfortable with letting them out.
Here's hoping the other youngsters get the hint and start to follow the little Barred Rock hen!

I have 1 b.o. she just turned 23 weeks and I have 2 rhode islands there about 5 or 6 months old now. I let them free range all day with water and food bowls all over my backyard. They are not confined at all that's for shure. Any ways yesterday my bo in the afternoon around 3 pm started making this terrible barrrraaaakkkk sound I thought somthing was wrong but nothing her wings were cupped and she was pannting she did this for about 20 min then just stopped and went to eat and roam what could this be? My other two are talkers but my bo named pumpkin is quiet so I'm wondering what happend none of them have layed yet

Some do not start laying until 10-12 mons. I have Australorps but when they do start laying, it's almost everyday. I can tell when I have a new one start laying. I find the eggs on the floor or wherever. They usually find where the others lay and learn. And they don't always lay in the morn. as I was told by other chicken people.
I am having a problem I would like help with. My first batch that I raised from chicks, all got killed by a neighbors dog. I have one left. He replaced them with adult birds. I asked for one rooster. One hen that came with them is not accepted by the flock. I have to feed and water her separately. Then the one that was from the chicks , has not been accepted by the rooster. Could be her own fault as she is very protective and hoggish with the food and chases all the hens away also. She also is fed and watered separately and the one that are separate don't get along either. ]
Is there a method to make them be accepted? I'm afraid if I pen the one in with the rooster and his flock, that he will kill her. And the other one too.

I found eggs in a planter and other places outside. One person said he found an egg in the crotch of a tree. You may find eggs anywhere, but the rule is to keep them in the coop at least until noon. Probably the reason you are not getting eggs from the ones that you did before, is they found another place, and if one lays an egg, the others will follow. Keep them penned and they will learn to lay eggs in the nest or at least in the coop and after t hey learn, they will always return to the coop.

Could she have been too warm? Heat is a problem with chickens. They will sit with their wings out a little to get air to their body.

I have read the threads, I have studied the remarks on when the girlies will lay and the times of the day. Mine were all given to me. I have two friends that use baby chicks to take pictures and gave them us. So I think they will lay at the first of August. We are enjoying the chicks so much. We let them free roam all day and they have a pattern. I have had to round them up and chase them home if they ram to far for us to hear or see them.
Yesterday a snake paid them a visit but he quickly left.
We have a couple of wrens by the front door and they are most aggravated with the chickens,
I have to tell you this it is so cute. The wren sits on a limb calling it's chicks to fly, a hummingbird has a feeder right by the limb the hummer and the wren have little fights. The hummer sits on the limb over the wren making sure that sugar water is secure !
