I'm thinking about fencing my side yard for the chickens to have some area to graze. The only plant I have over there is a climbing one like Clematis or Honeysuckle. I don't know what it is. I know I will have to put some kind of fencing around it to protect it, but I wanted to make sure its not a known poisonous plant to them. Anyone know?

I dont think honeysuckle is just because I know I have it in my area and pick at it all the time .
They didnt eat it all but I know thety did . They even eat morning glory flowers , not the vine just the flowers they go nuts for them.
Hope that helps you

If your not sure what the plant is you could either try looking up pictures of Clematis or Honeysuckle and comparing it to the plant you have or you could prehaps try contacting the master gardeners in your area and see if they can identify the plant for you. Honeysuckle and Clematis are both toxic according to http://www.birdsnways.com/articles/plntstox.htm As to whether they eat it or not depends on the birds and how well fed they are and how adventurous they are in trying things...

my girls are super chicks ! I know they ate them both and unless someone replaced them with other birds

that looks like mine they are still alive .

Mine haven't anything they shouldn't either....doesn't mean they don't eat things I don't want them to eat though! They leave my vines alone. I have chocolate vine, clematis, dutchman's pipes, wisteria, cross vine, chinese wisteria, pink and white coral flower, jasmine, sandpaper vines, moonflower vines and blue and white sky vines. Sometimes I have to put something around the base of a vine to keep them from digging it up while hunting for bugs.

I looked at the Birdsnways.com list, and it's HUGE! Is there any plant that ISN'T on that list? I'm not sure I can trust such a list when it says that apricots and peaches are toxic to birds. Can that be true???
