I had chicks hatch on day 19, then 21. All the eggs were collected as laid. Why would some hatch so early? This sunday was day 21, I still have 6 eggs that have not hatched. How long do you keep the eggs in the bator? Thanks in advance this is my first time incubating! Boy, it is addicting! I am going to try again, but did not want to give up hope on the eggs still in there.

Day 21 is the average days of incubation. 1 degree difference in temps can make them develop a little faster or slower. In your incubator you can have some places cooler or warmer depending on where they are from the heating element. Some might have been hurried along just a bit. Also some breeds of very good health and vigor may pip and hatch earlier simply because they are so strong. I know when I hatch blue orpingtons they tend to lag behind and are the last to hatch in a mixed batch with other orpingtons.

Thanks for the response! I'm a newbie at this, When do you give up hope on the other eggs in the bator?
