What is the average height of the Ameraucana, Orpington and Barred Rocks? I just stared building my coop and run. Due to limited space I wanted to include the area under the coop as part of the run. I was thinking of elevating the floor 2 feet off of the ground so that the hens could walk under it. Will this be enough height for them?

Just started with the ditch for burying the hardware cloth around the outside yesterday. Pics will follow after I get a few steps into the project.

Click on my BYC page and look at the pics of my coop. The space under the house is 34" high and my first cycle of hens were barred rocks and buff orpingtons. I think 2' might be cutting it close just in terms of how comfortable they'd feel under the house. Depending on how much additional run space you have it may not be that big of a deal. The hens in my pics are only about 8 weeks old so don't use their height as a guide.

I have a section of my chicken house that is about 18 inches tall. All the hens go under there and scratch around and make winter nests in the straw. This is also their go-to space if they are scared or it is storming. One issue is my silkies like to lay their eggs in the back corner and then the larger hens lay there too. I have to use a tool to pull the eggs out or ask the kids to crawl under there.
