Big Blood Clot Inside Brown Egg (WARNING...GRAPHIC PICTURES)

This was really gross! In choosing an egg for my banana bread, I chose the one that had darker brown at the pointy top of the egg and a lighter brown at the bottom. I figured our customers wouldn't like the way that egg looked. Thank goodness I chose that one because when I cracked it open, blood came out, and then I continued to crack it all the way and there was a yellow egg yolk with a large blood clot attached to it. I'm not sure which chicken this came from, so the breed is unknown. The age of the chickens in that coop are 1 year old. We feed them an all-natural egg layer pellet, scratch feed, and barn lime. They do not have access to the outdoor right now since we are letting the grass get established first. We recently had a chicken prolapse and then lay a rotten egg 2 weeks later. Other than these instances, we get about 100 good eggs every day, and several double yolkers. Any thoughts from other chicken farmers? What is this blood clot? We have roosters in with the hens, but we collect our eggs daily so no chance of it being a baby chicken.

Ewwww! I though the little bit of blood in my egg Sunday evening was kinda gross. How did you know to open it on the plate first? I would have dumped it right into the banana bread mixin's.
 
The egg looked a little different on the outside - 2 different shades and it had a pointy end. I didn't think the customers would think it looked right. I wash all our eggs, and this one didn't float. I have made it a habit to crack open the eggs in a separate bowl before putting them in the batter since our egg shells are harder and flake off sometims. Boy am I glad I picked this one! I could just imagine what our customers would have thought! What a strange thing!
 
Hello, I'm new to chicken owning and to the forum, but have found very useful information so far, so it's my go to source. I'm on this morning, looking for information, I had the same thing happen last night, about the same size mass, although I did make a mess. Some of our girls have been laying double yolked eggs, so I falsely assumed this was another. Not a nice surprise. This egg too was different then the other doubles we have amassed, although it had one fully formed yolk and this bloody blob. It was also pointy at one end and a little wrinkled, also darker at one end and lighter at the top. We have no rooster in with the hens, Delawares, 9 of them. Is this something to be concerned about or just an anomaly? Recently we've had one hen who spends the majority of her time laying on the eggs, but we collect them daily. We've had blood spots before, but I have thought nothing of those.

We have stuff like that but the size of a pea
 
One of our hens just laid an egg like this too, it was a very small perfectly round egg.. I opened it to see what was inside and it was just like that.. Glad the hubs/kids didn't see me open it they would prob never eat eggs again. I can't find any info on what this is or why it happens... Must be a fluke thing.
 
I just cracked open an egg kike this. It looked normal outside, but looked like the photo - except the clot was smaller. Not very appetizing !

It didn't smell bad at all, and the yolk looked nice and yellow, so I set the bowl outside for the girls - who, as we know, usually gobble up just about anything.

Well, they came over and looked, and then walked away !

Guess they're grossed out too !

Please make this from this day forward, any egg needs to be cracked into a clear clean bowl 1 at a time , and inspected, so no bad egg causes you to waste your ingredients. A law in good cooking.🍀
