What are your opinions on "pink slime"?

I don't think there is a real solution if we cannot agree it is a problem. For now it is educate people to make a wise choice and ask "what am I eating?"

I have learned from some people here on BYC for example about bad stuff in food... some is accurate and relevant but some is questionable and not worth worrying about. I think we do a fair job in most cases but some slip through the cracks like pink slime which it does not sound appealing or alarming to me because I raise my own beef and am not really effected by it. I actually was raised with a huge garden that we kept all sorts of vegetables from and do sorely miss that and do not have the time to do such a big garden and in the past when I did do it the stuff I grew went to waste because nobody wanted to take the time to can it or store it.

Most businesses run on such a small profit margin that forces them to look at all cost saving features and product utilization is always on top. With that said they seem to always play on the edge of questionable practices. The folks running these companies have to keep the best interest of the companies at the foremost or they lose their job which produces a decision that is not a personal one but a corporate one.

Personally I think prepared just add water or milk foods are much worse for people and it is the poor that keep these businesses in the black. I cannot stand all these boxed foods like ricearoni and dry noodles with some powdered sauce but I will say they are very handy which is the selling point, not so much taste and thirdly nutrional value... it all makes you go the bathroom and for some that is enough.

Chickened, what would your solution be? If it is similar to that put forth by some, "do nothing and no restrictions on industry", I personally do not see that as a viable or acceptable course of action.

Good example.

. Though, paper is generally considered to be a major product and industry, so is not always considered a byproduct in stricter terms. The process does make a few though. :)
