Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

My favorite rat, Pippen, thought he was a little dog, and played with our friend's dogs all the time!

Yes, I've owned quite a few animals over the years!  My excuse to my husband is that I can better help clients if know their husbandry and behavior first hand.  Or something like that.  wink.png   Rats are by far my favorite "pocket pet."  I have owned probably nearly 30 and have bred a few litters as well.  Great little critters.

Welcome, from Sugarloaf Mountain, Clermont, Florida. About 25 miles from the mouse house. You will meet lots of great people on here and learn tons about your new addiction. Who knows you just might become the Small Flock BYC Expert Vet for your area. I know we can all use more of you.

I'm not sure where on BYC it is listed. BYC has a list of Vets that practice on poultry. You might want to check it out. It should give you a great list of contacts.

BTW, I love working dogs.... Used to train K-9 service dogs and Search and Rescue dogs for a living. Boy I sure miss doing that.

Thank you, Maye!  I tried to pay extra attention in vet school to the poultry lectures since I know the backyard flocks are becoming popular again.  But you just have to learn by doing sometimes!  wink.png

I have not done any search and rescue, but my male Malinois does protection sport (PSA and Schutzhund), dock diving, and a little bit of herding.  Mostly helping move the chickens around the backyard, but we're going to start on ducks once my instructor gets some replacement call ducks for the ones that got eaten at her place a few weeks back.  I'd get a couple myself to practice with, but they so far only allow 6 chickens and no ducks in my city.  My female does sheep herding (my male goes too crazy with sheep) and was a therapy dog.  My Malinois/Siberian husky pup is hopefully going to be like her great uncle and do all three.  I love versatile dogs!

Here's my male doing bitework:

Here's my Malinois/Sibe girl at about 3 months old.  She's 4 months old now and significantly darker and more sable.
