Uptail, please don't be disheartened by your loss. I looked into incubators as well and went for r-com suro. days 1-18 should be 37.5c and 45% days 18-completion should be 37c and minimum of 65%.(not sure what F) My 1st batch last week were shrink wrapped as I only upped to 55% due to batch 2 (shouldn't have added more eggs) I managed to get 2 out of shell alive but lost 1 after 28 hours. We all learn by our mistakes. I have already ordered a batch of eggs to put on when these finish.

Out of the 3 eggs that were left 1 hatched last night, the other 2 were dead without pipping. Not bad considering they were high humidity for over a week before due date! so out of the 1st batch I had:

Out of 12 eggs

6 were infertile (laid by same hen and my only white hen)

2 quit early

1 I dropped (stupidly)

3 made it to lockdown

1 dead in egg

2 shrink wrapped so I had to help 1 survived 1 died @ 28 Hours

Batch 2 out of 12 eggs

2 were infertile

1 was an early quitter

9 made it to lockdown

7 hatched and are doing well

2 dead in egg without pipping

Not bad considering this was my first hatch I have cleaned the bator and am waiting for it to dry before I put in My own Gold laced orpington eggs and 12 Buff Orpington eggs which I have purchased!

Last night I started playing nurse to my hen chick. She is not well and I can't figure out what is wrong. Praying she will come through it.

She died yesterday morning. It was heartbreaking.

We were able to find some beautiful orpington chicks about the same age yesterday. I got 3 to keep little fella company. Darn chicken math! I got a Lavendar, Blue, and Black
