A super hero chicken's coop!
Where the people who have OLD, 5 years plus hens and roosters, talk.

Here is my 7 year old Rooster, Amigo:




My 6 year old hen, Judge:



And my 5 year old hen, Symphony:



We gotta respect these old birds.

I'd have to get a picture of them, but I have two of my very original hens left. Both are about 11 years old now. They've survived so much and I'm shocked that they are still going strong. They do act like old ladies though. The one can't walk all the way up our hill to the house for treats without taking a break in between, but she still eventually comes up!

That's great! I hope Symphony will survive the big move we are doing and I hope she live till 12.
 
They look like they could pass for 2 years!
I had a rooster that was 7 years old, he was such a good boy, and was a ladies man even in his old age!

But my oldest birds were a pair of grey call ducks. The drake was 8 and the hen was going on 10, and man was that hen a grouchy gal! I only got her at age 7, She was a spent breeder that was kept in a wire cage all her life and fed nothing but layer pellets (so terrible for ducks :/) plus her feet were so torn up from the cages that she could barely walk, so she hated people.... But after a month of treating her injuries and getting her on a healthier diet, and 2 weeks of me working with her and lots of treats (and me with over 30 welts on my arms

) she came to love her new home with her own kiddie pool pond and her own 4by4 insulated house (yeah I may have gone over board...) she and her handsome little man had it pretty good

I showed that little doll and her man in 4-H for 3 years, and every year I always put a sign on the cage saying "keep hands away from cage, brown bird bites". But nobody believed that an adorable lil duck with a cute short bill and puffy chipmunk cheeks could ever be mean....
It was amazing I got her used to me! She would come up to have her belly rubbed, or to sleep in my sleeves

That's great that she is loved now! Amigo's feet are pretty swollen nowadays. :/
 
I had a drake duck (childhood pet, who loved me and bit everyone else, lol) who lived well over 12 years, not sure how long.
Right now I have several old ladies, one 6 year old one eyed who hen still lays a few eggs a week. Since we free range most of our layer birds, enough cull themselves, that I just let them live out their lives most of the time.
I had to cull my old red Roo a few years ago, due to arthritis issues (didn't think it was right to let the young guys attack him, and he couldn't fight back), that was pretty sad. (We butcher some every year for the table, how come I get attached to a random rooster? lol)

I love my little old lady birds.
