I have two columbian rock cross chickens. They are around 6 weeks old now. does any one have this breed? if so how well is their egg production and are they bad to go broody? the cross is Produced by mating a Rhode Island Red female with a Columbian male. i also have 4 red sex links. i have found info on the sex links , but i cant find hardly any on the columbain rock cross chickens. thanks in advance for any info.

Try finding Mt. Healthy Hatchery and look at their pictures. They have a Columbian rock cross.
They are the opposite of a sexlink cross. But in all I think they are a fairly good layer. They are similar to an Amberlink. I don't know about broodiness though, if they take back after the Plymouth Rocks I think some of them are broody.

Thanks, TravisE. I have seen the photos by Mt. Healthy Hatchery. Your picture is better in my opinion. It gives me a more accurate

idea of what to expect. This is a picture of my two-week-olds.

Thanks to all for your posts. Motorcyclechick look for brown feathering that will be the roosters. I found with this breed you can't go by the combs. Both of mine have a large combs, but have no brown feathers. they also don't have hackel or saddle feathers. Also both of my are quit friendly.
Hope this helps you out.

How are these guys coming along? I'm planning on setting a few of these later this week once I get my incubator. I have a very nice Columbian Roo that has been getting cozy with my two RIR hens. Would love to see some pics of mature examples.

Penny, my only pullet out of six (thus how my chicken math took off) started laying at 17 weeks (on the day!) She is laying daily. Her brothers were processed last week. They were great guys, but I have 2 other roosters, and no one wanted more roosters.

Penny and a brother.
The boys at five months.

I ordered straight run columbian rock cross and ended up with 5 pullets, a shame really because they are so large it would have been interesting to see the size of the boys. But I am very satisfied with the girls. They began to lay at 16 weeks a full two weeks before their "sisters" Barred Plymoth rocks and Rhode Island Reds. They are the top of the pecking order but not overly bossy. One in particular likes to be held, where as , my BPR are all timid and scared still when I hold them, even though I do it most days. I worry about their large combs in our ontario winters, but time will tell. I do have a RIR rooster so time will tell if I want their offspring or if they go broody.
