I have no idea. It's a beautiful creature, just not one that's welcome around me or my family or my chickens.

Looks like a Rat Snake to me. Keep them away from your eggs, they eat a TON of them!

My peace treaty with the snakes is that I will not go into the unmown areas and they will stay out of the mown lawn area.  I choose to believe that there are none around here.  That idea works great as long as they stay on their side of the grass.  This one did not.  Instead it completely freaked me out when I went into the shed to get the lawn mower.  Apparently snakes can't back up.  It looks like it started through the netting and got stuck.  It was already dead by the time I found it.

I have plenty of mice and rats for it to eat, thank you very much.  It can keep its metaphorical paws off my eggs!

I just want to know if it is poisonous.  It was in the dog yard and Lily has a swollen place on her leg.  She doesn't act like it hurts her, but I am, of course, worried.

If it's just a rat snake I'll quit worrying.  I know I have those around.  I'm in the deep south though and we have all sort of poisonous snakes.  :(

It's an Eastern Kingsnake, and it's not poison

looks like a brown snake but if your dogs leg is swollew no matter if it is a bite or not and you seen concerned  maybe you need to take it to a vet on the other hand if you can touch the swelling and see if it is infected then you don't need to go to the vet you can take care of it yourself, if you don't know how I am sure people here can help you if you need help now I can tell you what to do. But you need to look at it first and go from there. show us what the swelling looks like.

PS if it is poisonous and your dog is bit it will show signs of the poison very fast if it has been days and nothing then is is safe to say it was not poisonous and the wound need to be taking care of
