Morning everyone!
just thought I would pass on a tip. I was at a loss what to put calcium chips in for my little flock that they didn't make a mess in until I was at my local Country Store and spotted a small gravityfeeder that is designed to hang in the side of a bunny cage. Put a couple screws in the coop wall at right height (chicken belly high), bent the hangers around the screws, filled the feeder with chips and viola! no more mess

Going to pick up another one for grit before our ground freezes and everything is covered in snow.

Now, anyone out there have an idea for a pellet feeder they can't kick everything (or poop!) into? I feed inside the coop because first, my coop is pest proof and I also figure by keeping the main feed source inside I lessen the chance of contamination or attracting unwanted critters.

Happy Spring All!!!

I was having a problem with the girls kicking dirt into the feeder so I put it on a step stool, well that didn't work as they kepy knocking it over. It was becoming a problem because they were wasting alot of expensive feed. So I bought a short plant hanger, put it in the ground and hung their feeder from that. I did have to attacha zip tie to the handle to make the feeder a little longer, when I first hung it up it looked like the girls had to stand on their tippy toes to reach it.LOL!! Now I just have to get another plant hanger to hang their water from it.

Great idea for outside! I don't put their feeder out but I do put their waterer out with the same result you were having. Tried even putting it on a brick so they couldn't dig around it, didn't work. Now I have to go look thru the shed at my old hangers!

Personally I prefer PVC feeders. They are cheap, easy to make, don't require any expensive tools to make, and you can make them to any size you want. The only draw back is they don't allow very much room for multiple chickens at one time.

I have 2 4 inch feeders for food. 1 2 inch for grit and another for calcium. Even put 2 45 degree angles so they come out thru the coop wall so they can be filled from outside the coop. Also heated some clear acrylic and contoured to the pipes so I could cut slots in the pipes to monitor fill levels. Little silicone and a few screws. Good to go.
