He has just gotten to mean, I used to say he was bipolar with good days and bad days but here lately he has to many physco days....The flock used to have free range of over 30 acres since we had to fence them due to traffic and predators, he has become really territorial, he attacks as soon as you open the gate. This is not due to a space issue they still have a run that is 1 acre with half od that planted in meadow of wheat, barley and rye. I am hoping his replacement grows up a little nicer, he is only 3 months so I will not be doing any hatching for awhile unless someone local wants to give me their roo.....such a shame because he is a big beautiful leghorn that stands tall, I have grandkids and will not take the chance of him going after them..

I have tried for 2 months to calm him down, things like picking him up (got quite a few arm scratches on that one) , not letting him breed in front of me, locking him a couple times a day in a seperate pen within the run, everything I have tried only helps for a day or two then he is right back to his physco self.

It happens, don't beat youself up. Sometimes the only way a rooster can be good is with dumplings. If you can not eat him, give him to someone who will. It is better that he serves SOME useful purpose in his life.

Processing around here is normal business, My 6 year old granddaughter tells him he will be tasty...This one is just a little harder because he is one of my original 9 from 2 years ago.

I understand, I have three of my original six (hundreds have passed through here since then) and they are nearly four years old! They will be here as long as they want! Just try to remember that he has had two wonderful years and will only have one bad moment. Besides, they say, the meaner the roo the better the stew.........

That's too bad! Sorry he turned out this way. There has to be something that can be done with him. You've picked him up by the feet turning him upside down and parading him around in front of the entire flock? I've been reading that sometimes helps. I have 4 buff orpingtons I'm afraid which three might just be roos!! So sad!
