What did you do in the garden today?

I am using lava rock and pea gravel for mulch in my containers, since I have a lot of left over lava rock from my aquaponic planter. I took out all the lava rock and use grow bags instead.

The last thing I want to see are my chickens digging out the potting mix. The lava rock kind of prevents them from having any ideas. Last year I had to put cages around my planter to prevent my chicken from eating my tomato plants. Now, they don't touch them. They must have gotten sick from eating the leaves and learned their lesson.

These are indeterminate type tomato plants, Katana, Better Boy and Burpee Giant. The Giant is the slowest growing one. I wonder if I will get any 4 pound tomatoes like they advertise?

I just found out that Katana tomato is semi determinate. I was wondering if anyone took the suckers off a semi determinate tomato plant before?
Katana is a Beefsteak tomato hybrid variety so I would think that your plants will do well without requiring any pruning but sometimes it does help to remove any/all decaying or yellowing leaves…As well as any other leaves that are in the way of your flowers to encourage better growth.
