I'm getting chicks this week (12) and I have a family reunion that I would REALLY REALLY like to go to that is three hours away. I will probably get the chicks Wednesday or Thursday and the reunion is on Saturday. Is it possible for me to go somehow?? My husband will be home in the morning and night and I could find someone to come and check in on them, but it probably wouldn't work would it? Just tell me no way and I'll just try to forget about seeing my favorite cousin that I only get to see once a year, and telling my family that I'm starting midwifery school in the fall... Why didn't I plan this better?? Oh well.

If you buy a chick feeder and waterer and then fill them all the way to the top, then they could probably last a few days as long as they're still just a few weeks old.
 
As long as your husband is there every morning and every night to look in on them, they should be okay. Two feeders and waterers is a good suggestion, as I've had mine tip them over before, and you don't want them to be without water at that young age. You also want to make sure the water remains clean (no one is pooing in the pool, so to speak). But ya, as long as your hubby is at home, enjoy the reunion!
 
how long are you going to be gone? Only 3 hours away isn't far so it doesn't sound like a long trip?
Even if it was over-night I wouldn't be worried about them. Someone checking in the morning and again at night is more than enough. Go and don't worry about it.
