Bright red ball laid

Has anyone had a chicken lay a slightly smaller than a golf ball size bright red ball of fluid, I'm guessing it was filled with blood by the colour. This was attached by a 2.5cm cord to I guess a shell less egg? All three of my chickens seem very healthy. It was not laid in the nesting box but was found just under where they roost as if it had fallen out during the night.

Can anyone tell me what it would be and if there is something wrong?

I have attached a photo of the red ball and shell less egg, Well that's what I think it is. They were attached by a 2.5cm cord. All 3 hens still seem to be fine. I would love to know what it is and why it happened.
