ty. my dogs and cats are great with the chickens but i don't let the chicks out around the cats till big enough to defend themselves. my dog watched the hens grow up from chicks so he is use to them now. have lost more to foxes. been cooping them more and letting out when i get home from work.

Love my silkies too. Have a question though. New with chickens, got my first flock in June and my Silkies in July. All my chickens are suppose to be female but in the last week "Gracie" my grey silkie has started to cock a doodle do in the morning and evenings. Do I need to change her name to "Gregory" or will some females crow?
Yes, some hens will crow, but best guess is a cockerel. Post a photo and we'll help you figure it out.
