I have two and they were sold as California Whites. I can't find any information about them. What age do they normally start laying??

A little off topic but do yours have any black? I got a couple chicks and I'm trying to figure out if they are California whites. They have a few black spots/specks.

I think they lay similar to the Leghorn from what I've heard. Makes since because that's half what they are.

they are also called production whites

The California White Chicken is a cross between White Leghorn chicken hen with a California Grey Chicken Rooster. Adults are covered with white feathers with flecks of black. They grow fast and lay lots of big white eggs. They are a hardy chicken and will surpass the White Leghorn in laying ability and long longevity. They take well to close confinement.

That sounds more like the Tetra Tints to me, after a certain age the chicken will most likely turn an off white color, and lay an off white cream colored egg. How old are the chickens in the pic? < For Justhatched

California Whites can be all white or have a few black feathers here and there. If you need to know if you have a Cali White or Tetra Tint, find out which hatchery your chicks came from. Eg. if it came from Welp/Privett it is certainly a Cali White. If Mt. Healthy, then probably a Tetra Tint.

My California White laid her first egg at 19 weeks and 2 days. One day after my Production Red in the same age-group laid her first egg.

tetra tents and california whites are the same thing. just called different names from differnt hatcherys. Like the california grey is sometimes called production black or barred leghorn. And Black sex links are sometimes called black stars. it just depends which hatchery breeds them and what they decide to call them. They sometimes have black feathers but not all the time

I didn't get them from a hatchery. I got them from a private breeder who said they were California Whites.
