Disgusted by chicken law in Sacramento County

IT'S TIME TO SPEAK UP OR GIVE UP YOUR CROWING FOWL

Once this zoning change becomes finalized, it isn't going to be easy to get our property rights returned. If you zoned (AR), Ag Residential, you may not be as safe from this ban as you think. Roberta MacGlashan the District 4 Supervisor, (see map:http://www.bos.saccounty.net/District4/Documents/District4Map.pdf was talking about applying the ban to your residential zoning category as well. And what other animals or livestock are they going to ban next? Also, please note that other zoning changes were voted on regarding pens, coops, fences, walls, etc.

The Sacto County Supervisors want to see an angry hoard (so to speak) as Serna hinted at during the July 22nd meeting. Don't give up your male fowl or your property rights! We are asking anyone interested in attending a planning meeting to send me a private message. Please include your zip code and dates/times you are available and we'll figure out a location/date/time that fits everyone's needs as best we can.

The Supervisors will revisit the crowing fowl section of their zoning amendments “tentatively” on:
Wednesday October 28, 2015, 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, Board Chambers, 700 H Street, 1st floor, in Suite 1450, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Contact: Kevin Romo, 916-874-8178 to confirm meeting agenda, date/time.

OR
Call, write, email, tweet or Facebook all five Supervisors and tell them
what you think.

Bet you didn't see this coming...the County Supervisors' Board meeting to discuss crowing fowl ban has been moved up from 10/28/2015 at 2:30 to 10/27/2015 at 2:30 PM. Who's chicken?

Proud to be there &glad to see those who came to support the "crowing fowl" issue!

I am very pleased with the out come. Though moving forward it is a great shame that those individuals living on lots smaller than 10,000 sq feet are still not allowed to raise chickens. How can we change the ordanince as to allow more people to benefit from raising chickens?

I don't know but hope in time more people will see the benefit of chickens in the yard. I figure if you are willing to try to keep them on less acreage just hope your neighbors like you & like free eggs. Maybe that's the chicken's way into more yards! People always love free stuff!

My fiancee and I had a homeless/coopless chicken appear from nowhere, she was beat up and skinny. We asked the neighbors if they'd lost a chicken,no replied them.So Ebony would walk around our backyard during the day,and roost in the large oleander hedge at night. In the meantime I educated myself(cityboy),on scratch and lots of water for ebony.I call her little meat,Linda calls her Ebony.I converted a large beach fire pit on wheels with bedding and we lock her up at night, she lets us know when, around 7:30.We've had her about 6 months, great eggs, and have become quite fond of her.We have a mean neighbor, recently Ebony spooked and flew into our front yard,Linda went to get her and the loser witch lady next door hollar'd out mimicking Linda's move to fetch Ebony,go right,go left,go back,ha...ha,this non taxpaying, non voting woman is the worst human I've ever met.Anyways Linda got Ebony back. She had some words for lisa that I can't reveal.A few days later we get a letter from Sacramento code enforcement saying a complaints been filed by....................not told....but I have an idea who.So I called and have been told that we must get rid of Ebony because our lot is 6500 feet, not the required 10,000 feet. Our you kidding?Make me understand,a single chicken,in our beautiful large backyard, with wild bird feeders, hummingbird feeders, squirrel feeders, our cat Idgi,a water fountain,3 birdbaths, all in harmony. And we are told no chicken for you.Their OK in the cities of Folsom,Fair Oaks,Loomis and the city of Sacramento. But not in the "unincorporated sections of Sacramento county"Contacted our elected official,S.peters, quoted via e-mail chapter and verse of the reason(stupid)of this county ordinance. We are seriously thinking about fighting this.......Any ideas?
I don't support chickens in residential areas. The smell and vermin they attract are not pleasant. The way you describe your neighbor further prevents any support for you from me.

Basically California is a slave state. That's why you have these issues.

I think if people talk about it more that people will start to have more awareness about the 'neo-economic slavery' that's being passed around by the stripping of rights and freedoms.

But people shouldn't be against industry, even backyard industry.

The rodents being a problem isn't one if you just let education & responsibility take its course. You just take the next step in having a mouser barn raised cat take care of the mice. This is all more healthy for society.

And the backyard poultry education does solve the issues of the chemicals in your food that are making you sick.

All of these issues can be solved with education & responsibility, with a desire to live healthy. Let people do experiments how to live in their backyard and then they'll end up solving the problems of chemical saturation in foods. They can solve the rodent problem easily also, plus with bucket traps for mice.
