I have 3 Barred Rock Bantams and they are great! I brought them to the 4-H fair b/c I am in 4-H and it was my first time. I did great! I won Grand Champion Poultry Showmanship, Reserve Champion Rooster, Grand Champion Hen, and First Place Novice... AND IT WAS MY FIRST TIME!!!

Any good facts would be very much appreciated. Helpful info would be the varieties and combs other than the 6 basic. Also, there are... idk, like different categories? It was something I had remembered for showmanship but some of them were like Mediterranean, Oceanic... I cannot think of what it would be called!?! Please Help

Here are some pictures from the fair:

I come to kids like you for good information. I love watching the showmanship at the shows I've been to. Just be informative and know everything there is to know about your birds.

Oh my goodness, thank so much! I cannot even begin to explain how appreciative I am of your reply! If you had any helpful websites or anything I would appreciate them very much and thank you for just giving me that extra nudge to strive hard at what I do as a 4-H'er

Just a tip: Your birds are Barred Plymouth Rock Bantams that are commonly, but wrongly, called barred rocks. If you have any questions about showing chickens, pm me or post on here. This is my third year in 4-H, and I know much more than I would think, but I still have much to learn. Asking me questions actually helps you and me! Anyways, PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!! Oh, and memorize as much as you can!

Oh, and the 'categories' are classes. The standard chicken classes are American, Asiatic, English, Mediterranean, Continental, and All Other Standard Breeds. The bantam chicken classes are Game Bantams, Single Comb Clean Legged (your Plymouth rocks are in this class), Rose Comb Clean Legged, All Other Combs Clean Legged, and Feather Legged. You should memorize these, and , if you want, the breeds in them. The breeds will take a long time, though.

Here are some Plymouth Rock breed facts:
Breed Name: Plymouth Rock.
Comb Type: Single.
Recognized Colors: Barred, Black, Blue, Buff, Colombian, Partridge, Silver Pencilled, White.
Standard Class: American.
Bantam Class: Single Comb Clean Legged.
Standard Hen weight: 7.5 lbs.
Standard Cock weight: 9.5 lbs.
Bantam Hen weight: 32 oz.
Bantam Cock weight: 36 oz.
Skin Color: Yellow.
Egg Color: Brown.
Place Of Origin: United States of America.
Year Admitted Into APA (American Poultry Association): 1874.

Other chicken facts and info:
Skin Colors: White, Yellow, Black.
Egg Colors: Brown, Tinted (light brown), Dark Brown, White, Green/Blue.
Comb Types: Single, Rose, Pea, Strawberry, Cushion, V-Shaped, Buttercup, Walnut.
Extra Feathers: Crest, Beard/Muffs, Beard/Tufts (only in Araucana), Feathers on Legs.
Incubation Period of a Chicken Egg: 20-21 days. (3 weeks)
Weeks Until Bantam or Light Breed Pullet Lays First Egg: About 20.
Weeks Until Heavy Breed Pullet Lays First Egg: About 25.

PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!! (BTW, most of this info was off of the top of my head!)
