Toffee is my young male Bobwhite. He was artificially incubated by me, and I was lucky enough to be home when he hatched. I have hand-raised him (and bonded with him). He is the perfect little house bird! He comes to my voice, knows his way around, likes to be cuddled. He thinks I'm his mother and follows me everywhere. He took to a Flight suit right away so no piddles around to clean up. He seems to be very protective of me and what he considers his territory. He chases everyone but me, and even my cat "Winston" (yes, hard to believe). The cat actually does not bother him. Strange.... I know. Toffee "calls" when he's looking for me and searches until he finds me. I was skeptical about being able to coax him into being a pet, but he's so special!

OMG that is the cutest thing I've ever seen! What a handsome boy :)

Did you make that little flannel nappy for him or did you convert one of the pre-made ones for parrots?

I measured him and had it shipped. Its a size Large for Parrots. Thanks for the nice reply. He's my little Sweetie Pie. I plan to learn how to make some myself.

How cute is that! I had a female Bobwhite that really bonded with me a few years ago. I never did bring her in the house here, but she considered me her mate and would squat for me, follow me around like a drooling puppy in the aviary, and came when I called her name. I mean, she would come a running! LOL

So it does not surprise me that this male has bonded with you so well. Bobs are pretty smart birds and can be tamed down incredibly well if you work with them. Good job!!

Thanks! I'm certainly happy to see that others value these little cuties as much as me. I'm sure you miss your little darling. It's amazing how deeply they bond with us. Really special.

The only problem I experience with him is that he chases everyone else away from me! He thinks he's the top guy around here!

That is how they get when they consider you a mate! I have parrots here in the house and nobody gets near me or them, what with their territorial behavior.

Yeah, I miss my little female quail. She was only 2 years old. Something scared the quail in the night and she flew straight up into the 6'5" ceiling of the aviary, from the floor and broke her neck. These quail are so flight conditioned, that her power is what killed her in the end being able to fly so powerful. She was a real sweety. :)

Awwww =( Sorry to hear. What was her name? Do you have any quail currently?

Toffee is my sweetie. It's really strange to people that my cat Winston tolerates him. He will even lay with Toffee. Winston's a very calm kitty luckily and has been raised around birds since 5 weeks old. He apparently sees Toffee, and my other 2 inside birds, as something normal around here.

You know what I'm going through with the protectiveness a bird will show.

He's quite the fashion statement. Its amazing how attached we can become to our pets, and vice versa.-

Yes I totally agree. Pets are very much a part of the family.

I think Toffee is adorable in his flightsuit, and he doesn't try to tear it off.

I have two CBBQ's which are attached to me, but the male is more so than the female. When she's not in the mood, he's protective of me and wants to cuddle, but as soon as she's feeling frisky he dumps me for her, lol. But he can't make up his mind! I'll stick my hand in the pen and he comes rushing over to defend his woman, pecking at my hand, but then he'll force his body between my fingers and want me to hold him. So I cuddle him and then the entire time he's peeping to his girl from across the room. He is so weird XD

I love quail, they have the coolest little personalities :)
