I just added 2-3 hours of light pre dawn about 3 days ago and gave the girls some extra protein to give em a boost. When should i expect eggs?

If your girls are young and not layed before they may not start until spring. If they have been laying this fall and slowed down they might pick up in a week or two after you add the light.

Yes they layed before. It was actually 5 days now. Idk if they will lay. Any tips to get them going?

I'm by far no expert and also new to chickens; I have two roosters (long story) and two hens, all Mille Fleur banties. After a few months of no eggs I began to solicit advice, I've heard chicken's need lots of light, warm water, and good nutrition. I was feeding regular laying mash; however, I went to a Tractor Supply and bought some 'booster' feed for laying hens. I mixed this into my 50# bag of laying mash, added another 10# of corn, made sure the electric heated water dish was kept filled with fresh water and once a week, I add about a tablespoon of sugar to their water. I gave the four chickens a half a squash daily to prevent worms, lettuce, spinach, apples, potatoes, oyster shells, lots of straw and low and behold, the two hens started to lay. We've gotten about a dozen or more eggs from them over the past month. They rarely lay in their box but rather on a nest of hay in their coop. The coop has a 12x12 totally fenced and enclosed yard that is covered with straw, perches, and things to keep them happy and occupied. I toss in things they can peck on. I hoping to add some more hens this spring. Hope this helps. Marilyn

You may have to wait up to four weeks from when you add light. There's a slow buildup of hormones happening that will allow the birds to lay.

Our lights are on from 4am to 8am. It took a full month for all our hens to come back into lay, but we're now getting 41-48 eggs a day from 50ish chickens. Before the lights, we were getting *3*.

Hang in there!

I have 13 hens (oegb), 1 is trying to cluck (which I'm trying to break-way to cold for little ones now) and 3 are too young to be laying yet, so that leaves me with 9 laying hens though a couple of those don't have the big red combs of a layer. I think I only have 7 that are laying. I do have supplemental lighting on (5:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.) but it wasn't until after I started feeding my chickens a warm mash in the mornings that they started laying regularly. They are now laying between 4 and 6 eggs a day. I've used supplemental lighting before (more for a little added heat than for the eggs) and I don't remember ever getting this many eggs in December and January. We aren't big egg eaters so it isn't a priority to me but I'm surprised what a difference this made, if that is in fact what is causing the rise in production. If someone else tries this, please let me know if it does makes a difference for you.
