Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has ever experinced a similar thing or is able to help me out!?!
I have 2 female Peking ducks (almost 2 years old), who normally love my attention, and cuddles, will come up to me when im in the yard (especially when theres food involved) and generally well behaved, they are my babies.
I was away for 4 days over new years, and my parents baby sat them, they said they had no problems. Ever since I have got back one in particular (the dominant one, which is the one who is very comfortable with me usually) has become agressive, and the other follows, and almost showing fear towards me (puffing their feathers, opening their beaks wide and quacking loudly, and running/shuffling away from me). I am 6 weeks pregnant, could they be sensing this?
I also have 2 dogs and 4 silkie chickens and their behaviour has not changed around them.
It has been quite hot lately, they are moulting and havnt layed for about 1 week and a half.
please help!
Bianca :)

Check out my reply on biting ducks post I had some suggestions but my Pekins are drakes. You are right about animals sensing your bodies changing especially if their close to you my mom was 2 mons. pregnant with my brothers her horse who was very close with her suddenly wanted nothing to do with her but soon got over it. Give it time and keep pouring on the love.

Sounds like grumpy broody moltiness to me. Hormones. I don't think it's you.

You were away and that may have been stressful, and if they were just about to go broody, and then got stressed, that could have induced a molt.

And when my runners molt or go broody, it is CRANKYPANTS CITY around here. I would give them some space for a while (it may take weeks), keep offering some treats, keep calm and mellow.

Ours have gone through a period of not wanting attention when they previously had and it was when they were molting. May be acting out from you being gone. Give them time and goodies. They will come around.

Thanks everyone for the replies!
They have never bitten me, its just they dont want to have anything to do with me anymore and they are showing it!!
I think im just going to give them space, and treats like you suggested. Last night I went and gave them a pat in their bed, and they didnt seem too bad, just not as comfortable as what they normally are.
Hope it doesnt take too long before they get over their cranky-ness!
:)

P.s I was away for 4 weeks on my honeymoon last year and didnt have a problem with them then! (they are so spoilt with my parents)
