Duckling almost drowned need help.

My 4 day old runner was found this morning body laying and soaked in chick waterer despite few rocks I had to make it shallow. Her head was wet but hanging out of water she was cold that part of brooder not as warm the other 4 were happily sleeping under lamp. It was a pitiful sight. She was not moving anything but eyes it was like she was paralyzed took her straight to bathroom gently blow dried her put her in small tote with heat lamp started chirping scooting around but flipping on back very weak and she's completely dry. Now 2 hrs later she's half sitting half standing no longer scooting and chirping but really shivering her brooder temp is 90f lungs never sounded raspy think they were clear. She's had 2 watery poos and i fixed her sugar water at room temp in little medicine cup she's not interested in it should or how do I make her drink it. Is the shivering normal even though her box says 90f. Please any help is greatly appreciated she seemed a little weaker when they arrived yesterday mad that I didn't separate her then.

Did you get her completely dry?

If you have a syringe, you can drip some of the sugar water in her mouth. If you don't, dip her beak in the water. Try not to get her wet and only do this periodically you don't want to stress her more. You can offer feed once she is drinking.

This may not have had anything to do with not seperating her.

She's drinking on her own now. Completely dry. Have small bowl filled with rocks very shallow but she determined to try to sit in the bowl. No more shivering chirping loudly now walking around fairly good.

She's eating drinking chirping still a little wobbly could be her age. How long should I keep her separate and on sugar water

Give her a little more time, the others still maybe too rambucous for her. You might want to pick up some poultry vitamins to have on hand, they can really help boost one thats a little behind. Glad to hear she's recovering.

I'm thinking electrolyte imbalance, maybe. If you can get poultry vitamins with electrolytes that would be good.

That's the thing I had electrolyte mixed with probiotic in 1 waterer plain water in other but I will keep her on the electros and separate till she gets stronger. It was so bad to see her little body limp like that. Thank all of you so much for your help. Here's a pic of her now. I'm off to do outside babies lord I pray I see no hawks. Again thanks.

get a small packet of yeast and add very little to the water i had a few act like that seemed to get better then suddenly started getting weak. ran to the store for some yeast but i had lost 4 in the 10 mins i was gone sprinkled a little in their water and a bit in the food and the other 4 recovered within a few hours.

Glad to hear she is doing better. They always seem to want in the water.

Make sure your waterer is at the edge of the heat source. That way it is not to hot nor to cold at the water. You may want to consider a different type of waterer. I've had very good luck with small food storage containers with a hole cut in the lid that is big enough for them to get their heads in. While they are little, anytime you change their food or waterers you want to show them how to use it and where it is if moved.
