Barred Rock x White Crested Black Polish cross question

I have a batch of eggs in the incubator hatching. The eggs came from barred rock hens. Most of them were covered by a barred rock roo, but there was a white crested black polish roo in the pen as well. My first egg to hatch is a beautiful silver little baby. I read somewhere if you cross a barred rock hen with a black roo, the male offspring will be barred and the female chicks will be solid colored. Does this hold true for this hatch? Can I assume this chick will be a blue girl? Chicken genetics confuse me

that holds true as long as the black roo got to sire some of those eggs. the grey chicks are double barred males(two copies of barring will lighten the black chick down to a greyish tone) and the single barred males will be black with a headspot, the double barred males will also have a white/cream headspot. and the females will be black if sired by the black roo. but they will be black with a headspot, so telling from a one copy barred roo(sired by black male) against a barred females would be hard. that is untill they boys combs start to get red and the hens dont
 
Here is the chick in question. The pen that the eggs came from had barred rock roosters, barred rock hens, one white crested black polish roo and one white crested black polish hen. The eggs were all shades of brown the egg had to be laid by a barred rock hen. So what is up with the little silver guy?










Here he/she is with his/her hatch mates from the same batch of eggs. Can anbody clue me in to the parentage?
 
Could you post a pic of the white crested black polish rooster?Just wondering if he might be a very dark white crested blue polish?Whatever is going on with this chick,I would really like to see how it feathers out.Please keep us updated.

that cute little chick doesn't look barred (likely girl) and the color is off for what is in the pen. Either there is a recessive gene popping up or there is a rooster that had access to the BR hen that you didn't see. Perhaps they had a different roo in there a week before they collected eggs and he bred the hen before they pulled him and that's why you didn't know about him? Are you sure it was a Barred rock and not another cuckoo hen or a cross breed?
 
I will post pics of the chick as he/she gets older. I bought the eggs from someone and checked out the pen when I picked up the eggs. He had hatched out a bunch from the same pen a few months earlier and although almost all that he hatched were barred rocks, he wound up with two blues and one that had a black head and neck and blue body. They were very beautiful birds and I was trying to figure out if I got lucky enough to hatch one of those beauties.
 
The only thing in that pen, or any of the pens was barred rocks and the two polish. That's all he keeps and raises. Freak genetic mutation maybe? I have no clue...
 
It's a super cute chick, but I think we will all just have to wait to see what it turns into.

If he hatched out chicks that were blue before from the same pen then it's not a freak mutation. As georgia boy said, a more likely explanation is that the black roo is really a dark blue color and when mixed with the other color genetics fom the hen, it comes out much lighter. The black head/blue bodied chicken may be a dark blue/light blue. Looks like you lucked out and may get your wish! Do keep us updated as he/she feathers out!
