Okay so I've posted these images before, but I didn't really get the information I needed. What do you think has caused this? My Red Star hen is pecked and bullied by the others but it doesn't seem severe enough to cause this. Recently she started growing new feathers over the bald patches, but when I looked one morning they were back to this stage. So what is it? Could it be molting?
*She is the only one with this problem*
It has been going on for about a year, or longer.

Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Did you check her for mites or lice? Those might be causing something. Sorry I'm not much help. Hope someone else will be able to find some good info on this. Good luck!

I'm not a vet or anything but I did notice that they have some different sprays at the feed stores for this type of thing may show them pic and see what they recommend if you can not find anything on here? Poor girl I wish you the best post up when you figure it out..

I'd start by dusting them all for mites, if possible keep her separated while she heals. Take a good look at how much room each hen has at roost time.
I spy on my girls and when someone is a bully or a feather plucker, down the road she goes. Some hens are aggressive and a submissive one with an injury can be cannibalized
unmercifully. Each hen should have about 1 sq ft of space on the roost to call her own, and have the option to snuggle or scoot away if she's uncomfortable with her neighbor.
She may have started a molt way back and as the new feathers are struggling to pop out, the other hens are pecking her raw spots. Just some thoughts of mine. Hope it helps.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Check for mites, separate her, check she's getting enough nutrition (I knew some one who was feeding their hens just oats and they were in permanent moult because they were unable to get enough protein etc.) until her feathers have grown back. I doubt you would be, but you might want to check about overcrowding too. If you do separate her you may also want to reintroduce her slowly and spray her with anti-pecking spray when she is reintroduced.
Good luck!

X2 for the mite and lice checking.

I see this all the time in Stars, to me it looks like just constant pecking and unless your not watching her 24/7 you don't actually know how brutal her friends are being.
You may want to separate her for a while and see if she grows some new plumage in.

I'll see what I can do
