Feeding Question

Don't know if this is totally correct but I was told that chickens do not over eat. To keep food container filled at all times, at all ages. Was also told this is why feeding snacks should not be fed constantly, as this will fill them up too much and they won't eat the main food. Please... seasoned chicken owners, is this true?

Correct in my opinion. Chicks and laying hens should have access to their chick starter or layer feed all the time. Birds, including chickens, naturally forage and nibble all day long, slowly filling their crop, rather then trying to consume all the nutrition they need in just one or two big feedings a day. I do keep treats to a minimum because my birds also have access to a pasture and forage most of the day. So the rest of the time I do want them eating their layer feed.

Meat birds are a different story and their feed intake is often regulated to control their growth rate.
