My orpington hen was attacked by a bobcat Sunday and it left a large wound along her neck/shoulder area 6" x 3". I have been flushing it 2x daily with chlorohexidine and applying Veterycin. I started 0.7 cc injections of Penicillin-G last night (24 hrs after she was attacked) and she just had her second shot tonight. I noticed with tonight's cleaning that she has a patch of blue skin extending from her ear to the edge of the wound, I don't remember seeing it earlier. Could this be bruising or infection??? Should I be worried about it and if so, is there anything else I can do about it?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like bruising that is below the skin. If it turns black, it will be dead (necrotic) tissue. But hopefully it will just resorb on its own.

I agree, looks like bruising. Bruising usually gets darker in the next few days after the injury and as the body starts resorbing the blood it lightens up and heals. Poor girl.

I play roller derby, so I've gotten pretty familiar with bruises! :)

Thank you for the responses, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is just bruising.

I'll post updates on her status.

Here's an update on my hen "Cutie"... she seems to be doing great!

The blue discoloration has subsided so maybe it was bruising. She was eating well and really wanted out of her cage so I let her out to be with the big girls and she was scratching around as if nothing had ever happened. She has laid 3 eggs in the past week although not today, I did see her sitting in the box thinking about it though. I really hope she continues to improve, my only concern are a couple lumps of flesh that didn't close properly; I'll be keeping an eye on them.

An updated picture from last night:
