Hey guys, looking for suggestions on hatcheries/breeders for some good, meaty dark cornish. We finally decided we're going to raise Freedom Rangers this summer but we also want to raise a flock of dark cornish and see how well we like them. Anybody able to suggest a reliable source for chicks whose ultimate purpose is to go in the freezer? Thanks :)

You mean the heritage dual purpose bird, right?

I like my dark Cornish from Murray McMurray. Very heavy-breasted, meaty birds. I use them as broodies--they are one MEAN bird, and take outstanding care of chicks. About 2/3 of them go broody. Any that don't go broody go to the processor. Any that do go broody, we cross them with a Marans (meaty, and also known to go broody) and hope that the next generation is more broody than the first. We eat the cockerels from the hatch. Very tasty.

ya, send me a pm.. big birds, young birds, and hatching eggs available. no shipping of live birds...
