Hello, new and have a question

Ok, so should have listened to big sister. Duck layed an egg today! All clean and pretty. She (sister, not duck) told me that the same happened with one of her ducks and she just waited it out. I am still weirded out by the dirty vent, but again, have to listen to the voice of experience saying the vent issue is not a big deal, that she goes through the same thing with one of hers. Guess I just over reacted (Moi?). Thanks for the helping advice.

I was sure Veronicasmom was insane getting ducks, but through a strange course of events I ended up with a couple of muscovies, two that look a lot like hers, I realized how much I like them. So I guess I was worried. Now, I just might try a few chickens if I get brave.

I'm not sure if you should be so worried not having one laying an egg, as long as she's healthy. The blood yes but like miss Lydia said as long as its not extreme and is not long lasting its mostly just from starting to lay eggs. I started out with 3 Pekin females and since the day they started laying I hardly ever get eggs from one of my girls. I now only have 2 Pekin females but still to this day she does not lay hardly at all. I also had her checked by a friend of mine who is a vet and he said that she was fine. I few weeks it was -20* or so degrees most days and nights so I brought them and put them in the basement which I heated for them and only when contained in that smaller area did she ever lay eggs on a regular basis.
