I was busy this morning, but I went out to see my girls as soon as I got home in the afternoon. Under my SLW's roost, there was a thin-shelled egg, broken open. Tonight I went back to check on them after they went to bed, there there was another thin-shelled egg under her roost (broken open, of course), and then a sack with a huge yolk inside, also broken open. Needless to say, those got buried deep in the compost pile!
What's going on with her? She gets oyster shells or ground eggshell in her food every single day, yet her eggs have been soft or non-shelled for the last few months. She's 4 years old. She eats and drinks normally (which is a LOT! Never seen one chicken eat or drink so much), and scrounges the yard for goodies when we let her out of the run. Her droppings look normal, although they tend to be on the runny side. She's the dominant hen, and has to live in her own "apartment" because she picks and eats feathers from my EE, and attacks my bantam otherwise.
