Why so early?

I hatched and raised 23 chicks, at 1 month you could see tiny combs developing on roos and hens. By two months - they are 2.5 months old now - they all had their combs and wattles. I have 12 roos, 11 hens and a 3 month old Turkey chick in our 5x8, insulated chicken coup and for the most part, they all get along very well. I try to spend at least an hour a day just sitting in with them when I bring them their treat. When I do, I become prime real estate and usually have 7 to 8 birds, including Amber, my turkey chick and she, up till recently was the biggest on in there. At just over 2 months they are just under her size. The roos especially always want to sit on my lap and be petted, then they go to sleep.

My 25 meat chicks are developing very rapidly, at 2 weeks of age they are half the size that my hatched chicks were at 1 month and they have developed their combs. So I agree that there is no set rules about how and when they start to show on a bird.
