My 4 chickens are now 7 weeks old and we still don't have a chicken run build for them. They are in their snaplock coop at night, Precision extension pen (1 now but will be 2 connected by tomorrow) during the day, and they get to play in the yard by me for an hour at dusk. But they are growing fast and I'm afraid DH will still be pondering exactly what he wants by the time the girls outgrown their daytime digs.

While looking at Google Images on runs, I found http://www.chickencondos.com. At first DH rejected it completely. But now he is seriously considering it. We'd get the 6x8 with flat roof and the mesh predator protection for around the outside. We could add cinderblocks along the perimeter of the inside for good measure. Though DH will probably end up putting an electric fence around the outside for nighttime peace of mind. You can laugh all you want :p I don't want my chickens to get shocked even for the learning phase (don't worry, my DH gives me a hard time for this too)

They will spend nights locked in their coop, days in their runs, and, again, free time outside with us and our dogs.

It is a very big purchase and I just would like to hear from SOMEONE who has actual experience with this system. THe benefit is that once it arrives- presto -- the run is up and ready. And it could be moved if we want to change locations every-so-often.

I saw one person (Erin?) asking about them but didn't see where anyone responded who knew of them in person.

Thank you!

I agree! Don't spend that much money on that. You can get a dog kennel and a dog house for less than that. Have you tried craigslist? There are usually a few people that make nice coops on there for cheaper.

it does make sense to buy a dog run from TS but I posted earlier about needing a lead-free run. We're going to probably use electric fencing but I want a secure physical run for them that I won't have to worry about on days w/o power (though I guess solar power wouldn't be affected.) So many weird weather conditions happen here in NE MO that I want to be completely confident in our system. The big issue is lead/zinc - DH is firm about this. If the cone doesn't have lead, I'm sure we'll buy it- regardless of the cost. It is powder coated which COULD mean no lead, but not for certain. Yes, it is THAT important to DH.
Somewhat OT, but not too much---our labrador retriever just came in the house smelling like a skunk... DH said we simply must enclose our entire property (or a lot of it, not all 9 acres) to keep this from happening! Off to google skunk removal - with what we have on hand tonight. GAH.

Well they are made of powder coated un-galvanized steel with no lead or zinc. Predator protection around the bottom. Solid roof on top. Expandable incase chicken math happens. 6xx8x6= 48 sq ft for 4 chickens. Will decide today.

Did you ever decide to get the coop from chickencondos.com? If so, how do you like it?
